More than one way to fry a catfish … But special fundraiser will take care of that for you

DGKN staff report

KIDRON For the 15th year, a special fundraiser is hosted by Sonnenberg Mennonite Church.
The annual Mississippi Catfish Fry for Missions is 4-6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 at Sonnenberg Mennonite Church, 14367 Hackett Road, Kidron.

Dine-in and drive-thru are both available. Menu includes Mississippi catfish (gluten-free available) hush puppies, and sides. All donations directly support mission projects of Sonnenberg Mennonite Church.

“We give generous helpings at the drive thru but if you dine in you get all you can eat,” said Ken Neuenschwander, who is part of the outreach and service ministry at the church.
Many of the missionaries and mission organizations Sonnenberg supports are seeing an exponential increase in stress and the needs of their clients and workers in these uncertain times.

“They are needing to implement more programs and projects, hire more personnel and directly intervene on behalf of individuals,” Neuenschwander said in an email. “We want to do our part in facilitating those programs and projects, so we are praying for a successful Mississippi Catfish Fry. The fish fry is one of several ways Sonnenberg supports our outreach locally, here in Wayne County and neighboring counties with organizations like Open Arms Ministries, The Lighthouse and many more, as well as nationally and internationally through organizations like MCC (Mennonite Central Committee) and MMN (Mennonite Mission Network) and others.”

This year, besides the Mississippi Catfish, garlic potatoes or chips, Hush Puppies, cole slaw, apple sauce, pickles, and cookies and bars are on the menu. The meal is by donation.

“Come in and enjoy fellowship around the table or pick-up your meal at the drive through,” Neuenschwander said.
