One home and project at a time, Miller Custom Exteriors has been improving and beautifying Northeastern Ohio and beyond.
The family-owned and operated company, which is headquartered in Dalton, was founded in Holmes County by Jacob Miller Jr.
Miller gained experience in the industry by constructing pole buildings and working alongside his brother-in-law at Curry Lumber in Wooster. An entrepreneur with a dream and a vision who enjoyed working directly with customers, Miller launched his own business at 35 years old: Benton Builders.
His business – and reputation for quality craftsmanship – grew from there.
Benton Builders became an ABC Seamless siding and gutter franchise. The company is now one of the country’s oldest seamless siding installation companies. Just before the turn of the century, two of Jacob Miller’s sons, Lorin and Ed, took over the business. And in 2008, the business rebranded to Miller Custom Exteriors to pay tribute to the family values and growing services the company offered.
On Feb. 1, Miller Custom Exteriors marked a milestone anniversary. The company celebrates 50 years.
Lorin and Ed Miller are still at the helm and four brothers run various crews for the company. A third generation continues the family business legacy. Three of Jacob Miller’s grandsons and two daughters-in-law work for the business.
Miller Custom Exteriors has evolved with the times. A division offering concrete floor coating has been added within the past 10 years, called Fantastic Floors.
The company keeps up with trends and works to meet customers’ aesthetic and practical needs.
“I think we are very meticulous and we take care of things and see things in our projects that other contractors don’t see,” said Ann Miller, a daughter-in-law of Jacob Miller’s, and marketing coordinator.
The company offers windows, doors, roofing, gutters and gutter guards, a variety of siding, chimney and masonry services, porch enclosure conversions, retractable shades and more.

When customers contact Miller Custom Exteriors for their home improvement needs, they can be assured they will receive the same care, expertise and quality craftsmanship that Jacob Miller Jr. offered when he began his business.
Miller Custom Exteriors doesn’t use subcontractors. All crews are employees. Customers will know the experts by name who are working on their homes.
Most of their trims for windows, brackets, crown moldings, cornices, corbels and doors are custom-made by their installers. Windows and doors are fully replaced with customized trim on the interior and exterior.
Crews can even remove bow or bay windows to update the look of their home, or install durable metal siding that looks like natural wood grain – a popular option locally.
Recently, the business invested in a 6-inch gutter machine. For customers with a steep roof or issues with overflowing gutters, a wider gutter can help resolve the issue.
“We solve problems as we go,” Ann Miller said. “If someone has an issue, Miller Custom Exteriors works to solve it.”
Currently, several window and door displays are in the new showroom at 55 Eckard Road and customers are welcome to stop in. A grand opening for the company’s offices and completed showroom is expected by the end of the year as the business finishes up additions and renovations. In the future, customers will be able to see even more displays and samples, as well as advancements in the industry and what’s trending in home improvements.
The location along U.S. 30 in Dalton is ideal for the company, which has customers stretching across Wayne, Stark, Medina, Summit, Ashland, Crawford, Tuscarawas and other surrounding counties.
“We’re here and we’re glad to be part of the Dalton community and we’re here for whatever anybody needs,” Ann Miller said.
Miller Custom Exteriors has received many awards and accolades. The company was named East Central Regional CotY winner by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry in the Residential Exterior $100,000 to $200,000 category of its 2016 annual awards competition.
The company has received an A-plus rating by the Better Business Bureau.
In 2001, Miller Custom Exteriors was awarded the National Contractor of the Year Award by the NARI for a Canton home renovation project. In 2002, the company was recognized as a distinguished “Big 50” remodeling company by Remodeling Magazine based on customer satisfaction and overall business practices.
