ORRVILLE — Susan K. (Fischer) Haas, age 77, of Orrville, passed Sunday, January 19, 2020, at Aultman Compassionate Care Center in Canton, holding her daughter’s hand and listening to Elvis sing gospel.
Susan was born on August 21, 1942, in Wooster, to the late Oscar and Lucille (Tanner) Fischer, graduated from Orrville High School in 1960, and received a degree from the Wooster Business College.
She loyally worked in numerous positions, last working as a Sales and Customer Service Representative, for International Paper in Wooster for over 40 years, retiring in 2001.
Susan was a trailblazing 1960s working mom who loved all Cleveland sports, mystery novels, Broadway musicals, and a loose slot machine. No one could pop up quicker on a pair of water skis. She laughed; her heart was big; and sometimes to a fault, she was incredibly compassionate and giving.
She is survived and missed by a daughter, Stacey (John) Durst; and grandson, Tanner Durst, both of Columbus; brother, Larry (Billie) Fischer of Orrville; her beloved dogs, Copper, Diamond, and Little H, and special childhood and lifelong friends.
Friends may call on Friday, January 24, 2020, at Auble Funeral Home, 512 East Oak Street, Orrville, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Memorial services will follow at 7:00 pm on Friday, at the funeral home, with Pastor Tom Ledford officiating. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville.
Susan quit smoking 16 years ago so she could watch her grandson grow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, Northeast Region, 5755 Granger Rd Ste 905, Independence, OH 44131. Those wishing to send flowers may send a single sunflower from the Bouquet Shop (330-682-5856).
Online registry and expressions of condolence may be made at the funeral home’s web site at www.aublefuneralhome.com.
