Five COVID-19 deaths at Wayne County nursing home
WOOSTER Five residents at a Wayne County nursing home have died from COVID-19.
Fifteen other residents and staff members have been reported as either confirmed or probable cases.
The Wayne County Health Department has received reports of multiple cases of both positive confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 at Glendora Nursing Home, 1552 N Honeytown Road, according to a news release Friday. Of 20 cases reported, 10 are residents and 10 are staff members. All five deaths were residents, the release states.
The Health Department has been working with the nursing home to identify close contacts and quarantine people who are risk. The Health Department has also done and will continue to do all the required reporting to the Ohio Department of Health as the state department of health licenses long term care facilities, the release states.
“This is an extremely unfortunate situation and certainly our sympathies are with the deceased family and friends. We will continue to work with the nursing home and work on preventing further cases and deaths,“ Nicholas Cascarelli, Wayne County Health Commissioner, said in the release. “Nursing homes are hot spots for this potentially deadly disease.”
Out of respect for privacy of the families impacted, the health department is not releasing names or any other information at this time, according to the release.
