PHOTO PROVIDED

The Smithville Community Historical Society’s annual Antiques Market will be Aug. 15.

SMITHVILLE The Smithville Community Historical Society’s annual Antiques Market is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 15 at Mishler Weaving Mill grounds.
Vendors will be selling antiques and country collectibles. Most vendors also enjoy answering questions about items you may have in your own collection, according to a news release. There will be parking behind the mill or at the veteran’s memorial at the park.
At the Pioneer Village in the center of Smithville, some featured exhibits include the Downey Pioneer Visitors Center as well as local craftsmen, who will be in their shops to demonstrate their trades. Check out the Lydo Barn for changes in displays explaining the various pieces of equipment used by local farmers in the early years of our settlement.
On the greens across from the Church of God bring your chair to sit in the shade and watch the Smithville Stars Vintage Baseball team play. The game will be played by rules from the 1860s. While enjoying the village, visit local businesses to see what they have to offer.
The Smithville Community Historical is free to visit but donations are accepted. Look for new donation boxes in each building, which also hold information about the year’s events and membership applications. There is a saying about old buildings, “You don’t own them, they own you,” with their continuing need for repair.  Come and have a wonderful day in a busy small town. For additional information, call 330-669-9455.
