Melinda Marie Amstutz, 93, of Dalton, passed away Friday morning at West View Healthy Living, Wooster, surrounded by family. She was born in Dalton to the late Otto and Elizabeth (Zimmerly) Kamp and was a life resident of Wayne County, Ohio. Marie graduated from Dalton High School in the class of 1946 and married Duane B. Amstutz on August 21, 1948. He preceded her in death on December 2, 2017.
After marriage, Marie was a homemaker, wife, and mother. She loved the Lord, read her Bible often, and was an active member of Kidron Mennonite Church. She enjoyed time with family, traveling, quilting, and gardening. She was known for making delicious pies and nurturing her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are Marie’s children, Cheryl D. (Tom) Michaels of Dalton, Linda M. Amstutz of Dalton, Duane B. (Karen) Amstutz of Raleigh, NC, Charles R. (Donna) Amstutz of Montgomery, OH, and Annette E. (Jay) Halley of Sandusky, OH; grandchildren, John (Christi) Michaels of Dalton, Andrew (Christy) Michaels of Orrville, Celeste (Stephen) Pokora of Annapolis, MD, Taryn (Collin) Backus of Raleigh, NC, Alyson Amstutz of Westerville, OH, Daniel (Nicole) Halley of Catawba Island, OH, Matthew Halley of Quincy, MA, and Anna Halley of Columbus, OH; two step-grandchildren, Lindsey (James) Hobgood of Raleigh, NC, and Shelby (Justin) Pilarczyk of Knightdale, NC; and eleven great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Duane, Marie was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Silas Kamp; sisters, Sylvia Jaberg, Melvina Gerber, and Verna Raber; daughter-in-law, Margaret Amstutz; and great grandson, Nathaniel Levi Michaels.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the staffs at West View Healthy Living and Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare for the wonderful and compassionate care given to Marie.
Private services will be held at Kidron Mennonite Church. Burial will take place at the church cemetery.
