Together Again
Dalton — Dora Lee Huntsberger, age 90, of Dalton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at Apostolic Christian Village in Rittman, following a brief period of declining health.
Dora Lee was born on September 15, 1935, in Massillon, Ohio, to the late Clarence and Leora (Harrold) Gardner. She graduated from Dalton High School with the Class of 1953 and continued her education at the Akron School of Nursing. On April 7, 1956, she married the love of her life, Maurice William Huntsberger, in Dalton, and together they shared 65 years of marriage filled with love, faith, adventure, and devotion to their family. Maurice preceded her in death on April 18, 2021.
A compassionate and dedicated caregiver, Dora Lee worked as a registered nurse for Akron City Hospital, Dunlap Memorial Hospital, and Dunlap Family Physicians. Throughout her 41-year career, she touched the lives of countless patients with her kindness and professionalism before retiring in 1998.
Dora Lee was an active member of the Dalton Historical Society, the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in Massillon, Salem Mennonite Church Women in Mission, MCC Connections, and the Wooster Gnat Boxers Square Dancers. She also generously volunteered with the Red Cross, assisting with blood drives. Dora Lee found joy in life’s simple pleasures, including reading, working crossword puzzles, playing solitaire, and tending to her flower gardens. She especially cherished camping, hiking, and square dancing with Maurice, creating treasured memories together through the years. Above all, Dora Lee’s greatest joy was her family. She loved gathering with those she held dear, and they will deeply miss her as they cherish the many memories she helped create.
She is survived by her two daughters, Gail (Doug) Reeder of Dalton and Elaine (Tom) Strock of Massillon; two sons, James (Cara) Huntsberger of Orrville and Jerald (Barb) Huntsberger of Dalton; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Maurice, Dora Lee was preceded in death by her infant son, Michael Huntsberger.
Friends may call on June 26, 2026, at Salem Mennonite Church, 3363 Zuercher Road, Dalton, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on June 26, 2026 at Salem Mennonite Church, 3363 Zuercher Road, Dalton, with Pastor Kevin Himes officiating. Burial will take place at the Dalton Cemetery.
