Kirsten McAllister has noticed that across the country young people seem to be experiencing Jesus powerfully, and she would like to create a space to see what the Lord wants to do here in Wayne County.

In general, McAllister, 23, of Wooster, has a passion for young adults connecting in a positive way, so she is inviting young Wayne County adults ages 19 to 29 to a free event 4-10 p.m. June 20 at Camp Luz Chapel, 152 Kidron Road, Orrville.

The event includes volleyball, canoeing, cornhole, pizza, desserts and more. McAllister asks people to text her at 330-201-6811 to let her know they’re coming.

McAllister also began a Facebook page recently, “Wayne County Young Adults,” with events and information.
The Triway graduate works at Lehman’s and is a dog trainer in Orrville.

She’s busy, but she feels a calling to fill a void. McAllister is a Christian and she said she feels the need to connect with fellow followers of Christ.

She began a Young Adults Bible Study at LincWay in Dalton, which meets at 6:30 p.m. the first and third Thursday of the month. She began the Bible study in April and was inspired to plan the bigger event at Camp Luz.

The Bible Study and Young Adults Fun Night are open to any young adults regardless of whether they belong to or attend a church and the event is open to Christians and non-Christians.

“I started a Bible study at LincWay,” she said. “I had a hunger for community within people my age. I feel there are not a lot of opportunities in the area for young adults. I wanted to create space for that.”

McAllister is hoping for community and connection with others and to have fun.

“I think connection is really important and community out of this,” she said.

She said the Bible Study group is a friendly group and they aim to make newcomers feel comfortable and she hopes the same for the Young Adult Fun Night.

She said she hopes to continue to plan events such as retreats and day trips down the road.

She asks that people text if they plan to come to the Fun Night at Camp Luz so she can get a head count for food.

“I’m hoping it just grows from here,” she said. “I think it’s also important for people my age to really connect. I think it’s a really great time in their lives.”
