Johnny A. Neff, 77

MARSHALLVILLE — Johnny A. Neff, age 77, formerly of Marshallville, died Thursday, April 30, 2026, his home, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Johnny was born on January 8, 1949, in Montgomery, West Virginia, to Lloyd Neff and Edith (Neil) Keenan, graduated from Gauley Bridge High School in 1966, and served as a Petty Office Second Class in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He married Barbara Brakefield on January 16, 1971, in Canton, OH. Barbara survives and they were able to share 55 wonderful years together.
He worked as a Instrument Technician for the J.M. Smucker Company in Orrville for 45 years, retiring in 2011.
John had a strong interest in airplanes, and even built an airplane with his good friend, Norm Lathrop. Many flights and fond memories were made in that airplane that they diligently worked on for years and flew it out of the Wayne County Airport. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years.
In addition to his loving wife, Barb, John is survived by his children, Brett (Beth) Neff and Amanda Neff; two grandsons, Dakkotah Jeffries and Benjamin Rhyder; brother, Mike Neff; and three sisters, Patsy Neff, Regina Sue Kegg and Tena Keenan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Nancy Jean Neff.
Friends may call on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Auble Funeral Home, 512 East Oak Street, Orrville, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Private burial will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman at a later date, where military rites will be observed.
