KIDRON Residents who launched a new farm market in Kidron are hoping local community members can claim the market as their own.
Hannah Mast, who started the farm market with her sisters, said she is excited about the feedback the market has received so far. What visitors and customers may enjoy the most is that they may see new and different vendors each week along with their favorites.
Conveniently located behind the Kidron auction barn, a wide variety of homemade and handmade items are available every Saturday 9 a.m.-noon through Oct. 23.
“I’d like for the locals to claim it, take ownership of it and pride in it,” Mast said in an email. “It’s theirs and I want them to see it in that way.”
Mast explained how the idea for the market began.
“About a year ago, sisters and I began talking about how fun it would be to have a market in the area – we’re all within a few miles from Kidron,” she wrote in the email. “We imagined a one-stop spot for all the Saturday morning shopping.
“One day last summer we decided to dive in and give it a try,” she continued. “The first order of business was finding a good location for a market. Mr. Sprunger was kind enough to allow us the use of the lot behind the auction barn. There are many local talented bakers, artists and crafters and this provides a great outlet for their wares. Recruiting them was the next step. We have gotten to know some amazing people in the process.”
Mast said the feedback has been great so far.
“Everyone is super excited,” she said. “It takes an entire town to get something like this off the ground and we’re counting on everyone for their support. One of the local business owners recently said to me that the people of Kidron love Kidron and I could not have said it better myself. Because of that fact, it almost seems like the market started off a few steps ahead.
“The vendor and food lineup each Saturday is never the same, so stop in every week to make sure you don’t miss anything! While we have great vendors and amazing food trucks, we’re always looking to add more – there’s an almost unlimited amount of space to expand.”
Mast said they are looking for fresh, local produce.
“What’s a farm market without homegrown veggies?” she asked.
Mast was happy to announce that visitors to the farm market can look for fresh peaches this Saturday and she said visitors may see produce as well.
Anyone with interest in becoming a vendor can call Mast at 330- 857-0106.
“The process is super simple and you are not required to be there every Saturday. You make your own schedule and sign up for what works for you,” she said.
“All of that being said, we want this market to be for the people of Kidron, by the people of Kidron. I very much want to remain in the background and let the amazing vendors and supportive customers speak for themselves. While I do schedule vendors and promote the market, it’s not my market. It’s the locals’ market. It takes everyone.”
Baked goods, coffee, fresh flowers, herbal remedies, pottery, paintings and much more can be found each week.
Some of the vendors are featured on the Kidron Farm Market’s Facebook page.
