Davault, Gerald E. “Jerry”
ORRVILLE — Gerald E. “Jerry” Davault, age 89, of Orrville, died Sunday, November 7, 2021, at Smithville Western Care Center in Wooster, following a period of declining health.
Jerry was born on October 16, 1932, in Jeromesville, Ohio, to the late Harold and Helen (Swineford) Davault, graduated from Jeromesville High School in 1950, and served as a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War. He attended Ashland University where he played football, basketball and baseball while he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He later received a Master’s Degree in Guidance from West Virginia University. He married Patricia Ann Rader on August 23, 1953, in Loudonville. Pat died on December 17, 2017.
He worked as an elementary and middle school teacher, guidance counselor, golf coach and athletic director for Triway Local Schools for a total of 30 years, retiring in 1985.
Jerry was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Orrville VFW and Orrville American Legion. He loved sports and was an avid Orrville and Cleveland sports fan. He enjoyed golfing and loved to travel with his wife before her passing.
Surviving are his daughter, Cathy (Rick) Thistlethwaite of St. Marys; son, Doug (Sandra) Davault of Orrville; eight grandchildren, Bill (Sarah) Thistlethwaite of Orrville, John (Erin) Thistlethwaite of Columbus, Joe (Sara) Davault of Massillon, Danny (Miranda) Thistlethwaite of St. Marys, Nick (Brittany Davis) Davault of Montross, VA, Lyndsey (Brandon) Nettleton of Smithville, and Maggie (Trevor) Summers of Orrville; 16 great grandchildren; a nephew, Michael Forest Davault of Orrville; niece, Susan (John) Arnold of New Philadelphia; and four great-nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Forest D. “Dave” Davault.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 pm on Friday, November 12, 2021, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1556 Rex Drive, Orrville, with Pastors Chuck Davis and David Rittgers officiating.
A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
