DALTON, OH — Bill Pumphrey, Sr., age 75, of Dalton, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 3, 2022, at his home in Dalton, following a period of declining health.
Bill was born on December 18, 1946, in Weston, West Virginia, to Elmer and Wilma (Conrad) Pumphrey and married Kathern “Kitty” Waller on February 18, 1967, in Marshallville. Kitty survives.
He worked as a Grinder for Quality Castings Company in Orrville for 32 years, retiring in 2011.
Bill was a member of Dalton Baptist Church and a former member of Orrville Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. He also previously served on the Marshallville Fire Department in the 1980s. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and flower and vegetable gardening. His cabin in West Virginia was his second home. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father, and he loved to spend time with his sons and grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 55 years, Kitty, are four sons, Bill (Tammy) Pumphrey Jr. of Wooster, Mike (Cindy) Pumphrey of Wooster, Destery (Tammy) Pumphrey of Orrville, and Burl (Sammi Jo) Pumphrey of Orrville; daughter-in-law, Jeanie May Pumphrey of Marshallville; 11 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; mother-in-law, Betty Waller; two sisters, Evelyn (Jim) Heater of WV and Sharon (Wes) Lester of WV; a brother-in-law, Jim Keener of WV; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Hollie Murray Pumphrey; and sister, Lovie Keener.
There will be no services and cremation will take place.
