Carrie A. Straub, 97

SMITHVILLE — Carrie A. Straub, age 97, of Smithville, died Monday, October 24, 2022, at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster with her daughter at her side, following a period of declining health.

Carrie was born on January 19, 1925, in Kenova, West Virginia, to the late Elijah and Nannie (Chrisman) Spencer and married Ellis Leo Beckwith in 1945.  Ellis died in 1960 and she later married Clarence Straub in 1970.  Clarence died in 1973.

She worked as a Supervisor of the Lunch Meat Kitchen for Sheller Meats in Smithville for over 20 years, retiring in 1979.

Carrie enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.

Surviving are her son, Thomas Beckwith of Smithville; two daughters, Nancy (Robert) Howard of Greenwich and Joyce Garn of Smithville; three grandchildren, Angela Kessinger of Big Prairie, Robert (Ellen) Cutlip of England, and Kevin Garn of Smithville; four great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Ellis Beckwith.

Private graveside services will be held at Smithville Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

In leu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be sent to LifeCare Hospice in Wooster.  The family wants to thank everyone at LifeCare Hospice for their kindness and caring.
