David A. McClain, 81

Orrville — David A. McClain, age 81, of Orrville, died Monday, March 20, 2023, at Orrville Pointe JAG Healthcare, following a period of declining health.

David was born on June 11, 1941, in Akron, Ohio, to the late Irvin and Lowatha (Summerville) McClain.

He graduated from Copley High School in 1959 and worked numerous occupations including heavy-haul over-the-road trucking for multiple companies for 20 years, retiring in 2001.

David enjoyed fishing, drag racing in his youth, and was a flea market frequent flyer. He loved watching his kids’ sporting events and Ohio State Football. Later on David coached an industrial league softball team for Wilburt that won the national championship as well as a girl’s summer softball league. He was said to be a quiet man who kept to himself and was very content with life.

Surviving are sister, Linda Heath of Glendale, AZ; two sons, David M. McClain of Appomattox, VA, and Jim (Lisa) McClain of Hendersonville, TN; two daughters, Julia (Chris) Davis of North Lawrence, and Brenda (Shawn) Malone of Antitoch, TN; fourteen grandchildren, and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by both parents and brother, G. Dale McClain.

Graveside services will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, March 24, 2023, at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Akron, with Pastor Dan Hostetler officiating.
