P. Nelson Kreider, 87

Waynesboro, VA — P. Nelson Kreider, age 87, of Waynesboro, VA, formerly of Walnut Creek, OH, died Monday, June 12, 2023, at Hospice House in Olathe, Kansas, following a short period of declining health.
Nelson was born on January 7, 1936, in Palmyra, Missouri, to the late John Franklin and Mattie Mae (Hinkle) Kreider and married Lois Arlene Mast on December 10, 1960, in Orrville, OH.  Lois died on October 26, 2020.
He worked in education and nursing for many years, but his heart was always in ministry and in serving the Lord.
Nelson came to a saving relationship with Christ during a time of voluntary service at Hope Rescue Mission. In reading Romans 5 he realized that his salvation was based on what Christ had done on his behalf. It was also at Hope Rescue Mission where he initially met Lois. After writing letters for a year, she then joined his service team in Mathis, Texas. They were married at the end of the service term.  Nelson and Lois chose to remain in South Texas to minister to the Hispanic community. They then ministered and worked together in Oklahoma and South Carolina. After retiring as an Amish taxi driver in Ohio, he moved to Waynesboro, Virginia, to live with one of his daughters and her family. Nelson was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Fisherville, VA.
To the union of Nelson and Lois were born three surviving daughters, Maribeth (Byron) Finley of Gardner, KS, Valerie Magnuson of Overland Park, KS, and Lanelle (David) Lowe of Waynesboro, VA; eleven grandchildren, Jonathan (Kaitlyn) Finley, Janelle Finley, Jared Finley, Joanna Finley, Jocelyn Finley, Josiah (LeeAnn) Magnuson, Stephanie (Ethan) Hardy, John Magnuson-Mehlhoff, Cecelia Magnuson, Stephen Lowe, and Caleb Lowe; five great grandchildren, Khara, Landon and Reese Finley, Cherith Hardy, and JoLee Magnuson; four siblings, John (Betty) Kreider of Newport News, VA, Anna Zook of Westminster, CO, Wendell (Jan) Kreider of Palmyra, MO, Carol(Doug) Kearbey of Parker, CO, and Hazel (Moe) Kauffman of Meza, AZ; brothers and sisters-in-law; Elvin Mast of Orrville, Ruth Detweiler of Kidron, Marilyn (Dr. Roy) Schlabach of Millersburg, and Ken (Kathy) Mast of Wooster; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Lois, he was preceded in death by siblings, Harold Kreider, Verna Graybill, Miriam Umble, and Kathryn Kreider; and brother-in-law, John P. Mast.
Friends may call on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at Auble Funeral Home, 512 East Oak Street, Orrville, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
Services will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, at the funeral home, with Pastor Mark Britton officiating.   Burial will take place at Martins Mennonite Church Cemetery.
