Donald E. “Gene” Lemon, 88
Orrville — Donald E. “Gene” Lemon, age 88, of Orrville, died Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare in Wooster, following a period of declining health.
Gene was born on August 7, 1935, in Fredericksburg, Ohio, to the late Harvey and Rosalie (Coleman) Lemon, graduated from Orrville High School in 1955, and served in the United States Army. He married Doris Jean Hamilton on August 17, 1957, in Clinton. Doris died on July 17, 2020.
After his service in the Army, he began a career of over 50 years working for and eventually as the owner and operator of Kurtz and Vernon Heating and Cooling in Massillon, retiring in 2017.
Gene was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, The Knights of Columbus, and the North Lawrence Fish and Game Club. He enjoyed gardening, lawn work, growing blueberry bushes, and he loved fishing, especially on his trips to Canada.
Surviving are his daughter, Diane (Steven) Sampson of Orrville; son, Dennis Lemon of Massillon; eight grandchildren, Jessica (Tyler Campbell) Sampson, Jeremy (Sierra) Sampson, Zachary (Kristine Murray) Sampson, Cody Sampson, Angie (Larry) Boyd, David (Donn-Yelle) Sampson, Jacob Bolyard, and Dylan (Sharon Miller) Lemon; great grandchildren, Harliegh, Carliegh, Ava, Bentley, Colton, Bo, Remington, Gunner, Laken, Silas, Oliver, AJ, and Carter; brother, John Lemon of Canton;and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Earl and Tom Lemon.
Friends may call on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Auble Funeral Home, 512 East Oak Street, Orrville, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 541 Spring Street, Orrville, with Fr. Ronald J. Turek officiating. Cremation will follow and burial will take place at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville, where military rites will be observed.
