Larry D. “Shorty” Ott, 85

Orrville – Larry D. “Shorty” Ott, age 85, of Orrville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at West View Healthy Living in Wooster, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Larry was born on October 10, 1939, in Wayne County, Ohio, to the late Clifford and Lucille (Young) Ott. He graduated from Orrville High School in 1957 and, shortly after, married the love of his life, Lois M. Pingilley, on March 25, 1961, in East Detroit, MI. Together they built a beautiful life filled with love and devotion until Lois’s passing on July 4, 2024.
Larry dedicated 30 years of his career working in the Shipping Department at Westinghouse, which later became Emerson Electric and then Rosemount, in Orrville. Known for his strong work ethic, he took pride in providing for his family and being a reliable team member throughout his time there.
He was a member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Marshallville. Outside of work and church, he found joy in keeping busy – whether it was painting houses, cleaning trucks, doing landscaping, or tackling any general handyman task that came his way. He had a natural gift for striking up conversations with anyone and never hesitated to lend a helping hand, which earned him a reputation as a friendly, dependable, and kind-hearted soul.
Larry’s greatest joy, however, came from his family. He was a proud and devoted father to his three children, Jody Fry of Orrville, Chris Pavelschak of Orrville, and Jeff (Dianne) Ott of Brewster. His love extended to his three grandchildren, Ian Ott of Massillon, Stephanie Bissell of Massillon, and Amanda (Dwayne) Peters of Marshallville, and his seven cherished great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard and Herb Ott.
Per Larry’s wishes, no services will be held, and cremation will take place. His inurnment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Larry’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601, or online at www.alz.org.
