John S. Kauffman, 98

John S. Kauffman, age 98, of Marshallville, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Wooster Community Hospital in Wooster, following a period of declining health.

John was born on April 8, 1927, in Garden City, Missouri, to the late John and Ruby (Stutzman) Kauffman. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1945 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Goshen College in Indiana. He married Marilyn Steiner on August 27, 1950, in Orrville. Marilyn preceded him in death on February 3, 2009.

He worked as the owner and operator of Lynway Construction.

John was a member of Orrville Mennonite Church and previously at Martins Mennoite Church and Dove Fellowship. He served as an elder, trustee, and Sunday school teacher. He enjoyed woodworking, especially making furniture for his children and grandchildren, and loved spending time outdoors tending his garden and lawn.

Surviving are his five sons, J. Stanley Kauffman of Pellston, MI, David (Willow) Kauffman of Georgetown, SC, Roland B. (Janice) Kauffman of Marshallville, Barry D. (Lynne) Kauffman of Marshallville, and Jeffrey N. (Carol) Kauffman of Fort Collins, CO; 13 grandchildren, Heidi (Kirk), Gretchen (Nate), Levi (Mandy), Erin (Glenn), Jason (Lisa), Joel (fiancée Kristen), Valerie (Steve), Sharla, Jocelyn (Andrew), Kiera, Tori, Gray, and Griffin; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bernita Wade of Orrville.

In addition to his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by his sister, Verna F. Kauffman.

Friends may call on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Orrville Mennonite Church, 1305 W. Market Street, Orrville, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the church, with Pastor Bill Seymour officiating. Burial will take place at Martins Mennonite Cemetery in Orrville.
