Larry D. “Sugar Bear” Johnson, 75

Tallmadge – Larry D. “Sugar Bear” Johnson, age 75, of Orrville, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026, in Akron, following a period of declining health.
Larry was born on December 10, 1950, in Wooster, Ohio, to the late Jefferson and Sarah (Moran) Johnson. He accepted Christ at an early age at First Baptist Church in Orrville under the pastoral leadership of Pastor Upshaw.
Larry graduated from Orrville High School in 1969 and went on to attend Ashland University, where he studied sociology. Known for his athletic ability, Larry excelled in football, wrestling, and track during both his high school and college years. After college, he continued his love of sports by playing softball with the Tigers AC. Larry was known for his vibrant personality and had a way of bringing life and laughter to any gathering. Throughout his working years, he was employed as a fiber optic installer for various companies.
He is survived by his son, Andre (Angela) Johnson; three grandchildren, Brandon (Kelsey), Ajay, and Andre Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Granger and Lennox; a sister, Myrtle Jean Jeffery; a brother, Darrell (Opal) Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jefferson Davis Johnson Jr., and a sister, Rose Evelyn Ward.
Friends may call on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Auble Funeral Home, 512 East Oak Street, Orrville, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Memorial services will follow at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Freddie Griffin Jr. delivering the eulogy.
Burial of ashes will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery.
