Donald R. West, 75

DALTON – Donald R. West, age 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on July 7, 2026, following a sudden illness.
He was born on September 25, 1950 in Dover, OH to the late James C. and Mary M. (Harding) West. A 1969 graduate of Dalton High School, Don was a longtime resident of the Dalton/Kidron area. Don grew up working hard on his parent’s dairy farm just outside of Dalton. He would later start driving semi-trucks where he eventually retired from Moonlight Trucking owned by his son, Doug. Don married Pamela Burwell in 1976. They just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Don was a proud grandfather who found so much joy in watching his grandchildren succeed in sports, 4-H, musicals and any other activities they participated in. Don enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre where he had many beloved friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Lynn West. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Pamela; children, Scott (Mindy) West of Dalton, Angela (Christopher) Hann of Wooster, Douglas (Sharla) West of Dalton; grandchildren, Maddy, Ava, Brady, Mason, Breydan (Lexi), Ethan, Emma, and Austin; brothers, Terry West of Creston, James (Amber) West of Marysville, OH, Richard (Brenda) West of Marshallville; sisters, Patricia (Charles) Rohr of Dalton, Kay Goddess of Orrville, Nancy West (Pius) of Akron; many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at the Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 29 E. Main St., Dalton, OH, 44618 from 1 to 3 p.m. and again from 4 to 6 p.m. A service will then follow at 6:30 p.m. with Pastor Mike McFarren, officiating. A private inurnment will take place at the Dalton Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
