Ramseyer, Lois H.

ORRVILLE – Lois H. Ramseyer passed away from this life into the glories of heaven on January 22, 2020, at the age of 92 at Accord Care Community.

Lois was born east of Marshallville at the Harvey Hartzler family farm. She married John E. Ramseyer Jr. on May 13, 1949 at Pleasant Hill Mennonite Church. There, she was involved in directing music and served as the children’s Sunday school superintendent. She later became a member of Smithville Mennonite Church.

As a young mother, Lois was a homemaker focused on raising their four daughters. She had a knack for baking, churning fresh butter, and canning. Lois began making wedding cakes and continued to grow her business for 50 years, expanding to a catering service. She made her last cake in her 80’s.

Lois and John raised a singing family who sang acapella four-part harmony. They desired to bless nursing home residents; occasionally, inmates at the County jail, as well as other venues.

After their ‘retirement’, Lois and John bought a winter home in Sarasota, Florida, where they welcomed many house guests.

Lois is survived by her daughters, Melissa (Dave) Schrock of Orrville, Connie (Fred) Stinson of Orrville, Phyllis (Ron) McCoy of Burbank, and Winifred Ramseyer of Rittman; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She loved being addressed as Grandma Great.  Lois’s sister Eileen Lehman of Kidron; and sisters-in-law, Pat Hartzler and Elise Maiwurm also survive.

Preceding her in death were her husband, John; parents, Harvey and Edith (Hostetler) Hartzler; sisters, Helen Kreider and Ruth Brenner; and brothers, Harold and Glenn Hartzler.

A Celebration of Life Service open to all will be held at Smithville Mennonite Church on February 22, 2020 at 10:00 am.  Private burial will take place at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank all who cared for Lois, both at Maple Terrace and Accord Care Community. Special thanks to Hospice for their lengthy genuine loving care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to LifeCare Hospice, 1900 Akron Road, Wooster, Ohio 44691.
