Marthey, Daniel J.
Apple Creek — Daniel J. Marthey, age 67, of Apple Creek, passed away on Sunday evening, April 18, 2021, at Wooster Community Hospital, following a brief illness.
Dan was born on February 6, 1954, in Wooster, to the late Robert “Bob” and Virginia ‘Ginny” (Yoder) Marthey and graduated from Waynedale High School with the class of 1972. He married the love of his life, Kathy Jacobs, on December 4, 1971, at St. Genevieve Catholic Church, Calamoutier, in Maysville, OH, and the two of them were never far apart. Dan and Kathy did everything together.
He worked as a superintendent for Bogner Construction for 28 years, retiring in 2013.
Dan was a member of American Legion Post #282, Laborers Local Union #1015, Orrville Moose Lodge #1072, and Sons and Daughters of Herman in Massillon. He loved NASCAR, watching poker, and gambling. Dan enjoyed watching history shows and westerns, but his favorite movie of all time was Dirty Dancing. He spent most of his time collecting coins, going mushroom hunting, taking his grandkids fishing, and surrounding himself with friends and family.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Stephanie (Todd) Shields of Doylestown, and Deborah (Ryan) Davies of Orrville; son, Pete (Stephanie) Marthey of Smithville; grandchildren, Courtney, Eric (Frances), Kyle, Mariah, Macee, Chloe, Braden, and Easton; 5 great grandchildren; mother, Ginny Marthey of Wooster; two brothers, Dave (Deborah) Marthey of Jonesboro, AR, and Pat Marthey of Apple Creek; and sister, Karen Marthey of Apple Creek.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert “Bob” Marthey, and his brother, Mike “Dutch” Marthey.
Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday, April 25, 2021, at Auble Funeral Home, 512 East Oak Street, Orrville.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, at Auble Funeral Home, with Pastor Jerry Butcher officiating. Burial will take place at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Wooster.
Visitors are asked to wear masks, practice social distancing, and adhere to posted signs and spacing limitations. Seating may be limited.
